Scholarship
applications are being accepted for the 2012 Elmer Carvey Memorial Scholarship
-- established in honor of Elmer Carvey, an active member of the SCCAVS from
1964 until 1982. This Scholarship is valid at any public four-year university in California, i.e. California State University or University of California, and is for undergraduates only. The stipend is $1,500 for one year. Applications from students who are planning careers in areas of interest to the society are encouraged. These areas include vacuum science and vacuum-related technologies, including surface and thin film science, nanotechnology, the understanding of materials properties, and the development of new materials (see http://sccavs.org/about.htm). (Biological sciences are generally not covered by this Scholarship unless the student's study area is interdisciplinary and involves areas of interest to the SCCAVS.) To apply for this scholarship, please complete an application form and mail it to Jeff Lince at one of the addresses listed below. Deadline for applications: June 1, 2012. The scholarship winner will be notified by August 1, 2011. |
