The Leading Edge Student Symposium

Student Symp 2006

The Student Symposium, organized by Prof. Jory Yarmoff from UC Riverside, was extremely successful.  The Plenary talk was given by Prof. Kostantinos Giapis from Caltech, and was titled “Mercurial Wetting and Other Nanotube Tales.”  Fifteen talks were given by students and postdocs from UCLA, UCSD, UCR, and UCI, spanning the fields of Chemistry, Physics, and Biochemistry, with a strong nanotechnology component.

In addition, awards were given for the three best student presentations, awarded by a committee comprised of Prof. Giapis from Caltech and Drs. Jeff Lince and Hyun Kim from The Aerospace Corporation.  Because all the talks were excellent, it was a difficult process deciding the three winners.  In the following photos, Prof. Yarmoff gives out the awards to the deserving recipients.
